No doctor at Khudumelapye

16 Mar 2017

There is no medical doctor stationed at Khudumelapye Clinic due to a general shortage of medical officers country wide, says Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele.

Responding to a question in Parliament on Wednesday, Mr Makgalemele said the ministry is in the process of filling two vacant posts in the district by end of May this year.

He said the medical doctor will be posted to Salajwe Clinic with maternity and will also visit Khudumelapye on outreach, stating that the doctor that was based in Khudumelapye was transferred to the 24-hour Letlhakeng clinic in September 2016, due to shortage of doctors in the district.

He told the House that the last doctor at Khudumelapye spent about five years before being transferred to Letlhakeng clinic in September 2016.

The Assistant Minister said there were no reported cases of missed appointment for check-up as well as no lives lost reports, adding that there are a total of 65 registered hypertensive patients and 223 clients on ARV treatment and these are seen by outreach doctors from Letlhakeng clinic on quarterly basis.

MP for Takatokwane, Mr Ngaka Ngaka had asked the minister to state when will the doctor be available at Khudumelapye Clinic, when was the doctor transferred, number of months spent at the clinic and the number of HIV and hypertensive patients missed their checkups and whether there were any lives lost.
