The Old Apostolic Church in Tutume has donated goods worth P5000 to flood victims at Gweta in the Tutume sub-district.
The goods included 40 bags of 12.5 kg meal-mealie, 40 bars of sunlight soap, 40 bags of 2.5 kg sugar and 40 cartons of 250 grams tea leaves, which were received by the Tutume sub-disaster committee.
Speaking at the donation handover ceremony on Tuesday, Tutume sub-district chairperson, Councillor Ishmael Mokgethi commended the church for engaging in such projects. Cllr
Mokgethi said the church had done a remarkable job, adding that they had set a good example for others as the goods would help a lot as the situation at Gweta was desparate after many households were affected. He also applauded them for their generosity, saying the goods would be delivered to the affected families.
Old Apostolic Church overseer, Mr Nzhi David said they found it necessary to donate goods to flood victims to show love and compassion to the affected families.
Mr David said their mandate as children of God was to love one another and to assist those who were in need.
He also said the church had donated at national level goods worth P16 000 from funds, which he said were solicited from church members in 16 denominations around the country. ENDS
