Mochudi main road prone to flooding
15 Mar 2017
Due to financial constraints, the storm water drainage master plan which was developed in 2008 to address drainage challenges could not be implemented.
The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso told Parliament on Tuesday that she is aware of the drainage challenges along the Mochudi main road from A1 turn off by the Pilane dumping site up to Moshawana ward.
Answering a question from the MP for Mochudi West, Mr Gilbert Mangole, the assistant minister said ‘there are currently no plans to carry out storm water drainage construction during this plan period.’
She Nevertheless, she said her ministry will continue to ensure that the public is regularly assisted by the Kgatleng District Council by undertaking remedial works with the available resources until such time that this project can be considered for implementation together with other competing national priorities.
MP Mangole had asked the minister if he is aware that the section of the Mochudi main road from A1 turn off by the Pilane dumping site up to Moshawana ward is prone to serious flooding posing a danger to adjacent households and businesses and as such, needs urgent attention by way of storm water drainage construction.
He has also wanted to know what measures the ministry intends to put in place to address the situation and when. ENDS
