Plateau primary pleads for adoption

15 Mar 2017

Plateau Primary School in Kasane has pleaded with stakeholders to adopt them through the Adopt-a-school initiative by the Ministry of Basic Education.

Speaking at the Commonwealth Day commemoration day in Plateau in Kasane, the school head Ms Magadalena Lebalelo cried out to the community to adopt their school.

Ms Lebalelo explained that the school had 782 learners, with 30 learners on the reception class and they had a number of activities such as sports, academics and price giving ceremonies, therefore the school had limited funds thus depending on the P50 contributed by parents once a year to cover all these.

“Chobe council also helps with transport money but it is not enough to cover all costs” she said, noting that the money they acquired could not help them as they had numerous plans of developing the school.

She said the primary school did not have a cultural village, an assembly area nor any internet connection and decried that due to their high number of pupils, stakeholders had been really hard to find.

The school head said potential suitors did not necessarily have to adopt the whole school but could choose an area to adopt.

Ms Lebalelo said that they had received help from Spar as well as African Odyssey in price giving ceremonies and also noted that their reception classes were funded by the Village Development Committee through teaching and learning materials.

“Adopting Plateau primary will make people realise the importance of education in future leaders,” she said.

She emphasised that any help that would come their way would build a conducive learning environment for the pupils and teachers and it would motivate the school community for better results . ENDS
