Attorney General’s Chambers officers have been awarded certificates of appreciation signed by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama for their contribution in the 50th Anniversary Independence celebrations.
Speaking at the awards ceremony in Gaborone recently, Directorate of Public Prosecutions director, Advocate Abraham Keetshabe stated that Botswana had successful celebrations with the help of volunteers, who worked tirelessly.
Advocate Keetshabe said 2016 was a memorable year for Botswana, having completed two races; being the culmination of Vision 2016 and the 50th Independence celebrations.
Therefore, he noted that it was fit for Botswana to celebrate such huge milestone, more so that the country had experienced peace and tranquility throughout the years.
Also, he noted that Botswana was able to use lessons learnt in the past 50 years to draw up the NDP 11 and the Vision 2036 strategy.
Thus, he commended all recipients saying, “You gave yourselves to national duty and principles and today we celebrate your hardwork.”
Also, he encouraged officers to possess good attitude that would ensure that they succeeded in life, adding that those who gave themselves to principles of togetherness would go far in life.
Further, he highlighted that the fact that President Khama signed the certificates was an indication that he recognised and valued their contribution to national call.
One of the recipients, Ms Moyombuya Ngubula stated that the team appreciated for being tasked to prepare a float for the celebrations. Ms Ngubula said they were faced with a mammoth task of ensuring that everything went well and worked hard.
She said her team engaged some of the elders who were around when Botswana got independence in 1966 to give them guidance. ENDS
