As a way of aligning their projects with the Vision 2036, which is themed 'Achieving prosperity for all' Lobatse Township council came to map their way forward and to benchmark with Ghanzi council.
Speaking during a three day Lobatse councillors' benchmarking workshop recently in Ghanzi, Town clerk Ms Boikhutso Matenga said the purpose of the workshop was to review performance on the 2016/17 annual plan and to formulate the road map to annual performance plan for 2017/18.
She noted that their objective also was to benchmark with Ghanzi council on their success, poverty eradication projects and destitute housing.
Lobatse Town Council mayor, Ms Malebogo Kruger said that they chose to benchmark in Ghanzi because it had some places and issues of interest that they were interested in, adding that they could learn a lot from Ghanzi council.
According to Ms Kruger, these issues of interest included tourism in Ghanzi, noting that they also wished to venture into tourism in Lobatse to diversify their economy.
She said Ghanzi and Lobatse had long and close relationship as many cattle slaughtered at Botswana Meat Commission came from Ghanzi.
When giving vote of thanks, Ghanzi District Council chairperson Mr Thato Tshweneyagae stated that Ghanzi had for long time had an umbilical cord that fed Lobatse BMC with meat, adding Ghanzi and Lobatse was like mother and a child and that the two should have partnership agreement.
He further encouraged Lobatse councillors to go and continue working hard and to strive to improve the lives of the residents of Lobatse. ENDS
