Botswana extends relations

President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama yesterday received letters of credence from Denmark, Slovakia and Romania envoys.

Speaking in an interview after presenting his credentials, Ambassador of Denmark, Ms Trine Thygesen expressed gratitude for having been assigned to Botswana and thanked President Khama for ‘excellent’ relations that Botswana and Denmark enjoyed.

Ms Thygesen, who would be based in South Africa, highlighted that during her tenure she would be focused on strengthening relations between the two countries.

She mentioned that they would work together focusing on energy and water initiatives.

Upon her presentation, Slovakia’s ambassador, Ms Monika Tomasovicova also expressed her excitement to formalise relations of cooperation between her country and Botswana through the establishment of a framework cooperation agreement.

Ms Tomasovicova said Botswana stood out as one of the most economically and politically stable countries, saying Botswana and Slovakia had moved forward in political aspects, bemoaning, however that “ the economic relations are lagging behind”.

She pointed out that Botswana had a lot to offer in terms of economic relations adding that she wanted  to promote visits of Slovakians’ to Botswana to find opportunities.

Ambassador Marius Boranescu of Romania mentioned that his focus would be on strengthen ing bilateral relations between his country and Botswana.

He highlighted that Botswana had made strides in technology and social development, adding that Botswana was moving fast in terms of development

Ms Boranescu said there were viable opportunities to enhance mutual knowledge and understanding between the two countries through the establishment of political consultations as well as through bilateral cooperation. ENDS
