CUCSA unearths talent

14 Mar 2017

Tertiary institutions sport is a point of departure into elite sport where athletes could become professionals.

Therefore, deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Oupa Mosesane encouraged the Confederation of Universities and Colleges of Southern Africa (CUCSA) members to continue doing the excellent job of creating avenues for student development.

Mosesane was speaking during the CUCSA 2017 Annual General Assembly over the weekend.

He said the job market was saturated and there was need to explore the sport market.

On a similar note, he said it was important that discipline is instilled at all stages of sport development, adding that athletes need to grow up in a culture of clean sport where cheating is not entertained.

He said the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology had been closely working with BOTESSA in providing both human and financial support to athletes and staff employed in the ministry during CUCSA activities.

As the ministry, he said they would continue to give BOTESSA and CUCSA all the necessary and possible facilitation and support.

“Government supports organisations where there is good governance. I have been informed that your books of accounts are audited by accountants and auditors that you appointed and this is good,” he said.

CUCSA intends fostering relations among students and staff of member states by encouraging sports contacts at all levels and also help provide an environment that will encourage the development of students’ sports in member states. ENDS
