Youth too lazy to generate wealth
13 Mar 2017
Kgosi Makgabana Tsiane of Takatokwane has expressed concern over failure by youth in his village to take advantage of government initiatives even though they are living under abject poverty.
In an interview recently, Kgosi Tsiane said even though government is willing to empower youth through funding of projects, there is a tendency of laziness among Takatokwane youth, which he believes is the reason they remain poor.
He said low numbers of applicants for the Youth Development Fund is despite the fact that an office has been opened in the village to bring services closer.
He expressed surprise over the fact that youth are still too lazy to utilise the office.
Kgosi Tsiane said he has realised that youth are too lazy to work, but only want instant cash, which leads them to resort to selling valuable things such as land and cattle.
This, according to him, has led to a high rate of land sales by the youth in the village.
“I have realised an escalating number of youth selling land in this village, which ultimately leaves them vulnerable to poverty,” he said.
He said rather than selling land to buy luxuries such as cars, clothes and alcohol, the youth should use land together with government initiatives to venture into businesses that will generate profit and increase their wealth as well as create employment for others. ENDS
