Quality produce vital

Botswana Agricultural Marketing Board (BAMB) chief executive officer (CEO), Mr Edson Woto has encouraged farmers to produce quality food in order to enjoy the rewards of their hard work.
Giving a presentation during the Tonota sub-district full council session on Monday, he explained that farmers should pride themselves with quality as they can feed the nation and make a better living from it.
Mr Woto highlighted that BAMB aimed at promoting local produce and therefore expected farmers to produce crops that were of a higher standard and also urged them to treat farming as a business.
He further said those who were in farming should consider specialised farming than ploughing a variety and less of each.
In addition, the CEO encouraged people to make it a habit of eating clean and healthy food, noting that they should increase their intake of indigenous food.
Consequently, he mentioned that healthy food promoted good health and added to a happy lifestyle with less exposure to diseases like high blood pressure and others.
Mr Woto added that people should pride themselves in eating indigenous food for their nutritional and health qualities.
For his part, Tonota Central councillor, Mr Chris Machokoto expressed dissatisfaction over lack of arable commercial farms in the Central district, noting that that discouraged farmers wanting to produce in bulk.
He commended BAMB for making an effort to ensure that food security was a priority in the country, highlighting that they needed to work more on ensuring that farmers in rural areas produced quality. ENDS
