Lack of rail transport costs mine
13 Jun 2013
Lack of rail transport has denied Morupule Colliery access to the international market.
Therefore, according to a representative from Morupule Coal Mine, Mr Letsibogo Ndwapi, said there was need for government and other stakeholders to build a railway line that could link Morupule to seaports in the neighbouring countries.
Mr Ndwapi, who was addressing Serowe Administrative Authority (SAA) council meeting on Tuesday, said there was a high demand for coal in other countries such as China, India and some European countries.
He said the railway line would enhance productivity because they would produce large quantities. He further said if demand for coal increased, they would be forced to use an open cast mining method since some of the areas near Masama lands had coal that was not too deep from the ground surface.
