Serowe Central Lions Club launched

08 Mar 2017

Acting commandant force training establishment, Colonel Edson Molale has appealed to corporate institutions through their corporate social investment wings to partner with Serowe Central Lions Club for them to achieve their humanitarian goals.

Speaking on behalf of the Botswana Defence Force commander, Lieutenant General Placid Segokgo, Col Molale conceded that corporate entities, due to their busy schedules, may not have time to reach out to the communities they operate in; hence the appeal to partner with the club.

While launching the 19 member reborn organisation that faded after its birth in 1993, Serowe Lions Club, Col Molale further appealed to the club president, Mr Martin Shikupa to engage in a serious recruitment drive for the organisation to flourish.

Col Molale pledged the commander’s support for charitable organisation like Lions Club and donated P5 540 on his behalf. He outlined some of the success stories of the club, such as donating eye equipment to Sekgoma Memorial Hospital and also informed of future projects, among them a waiting shelter for senior citizens at Rasebolai Post Office.
“I stand here with confidence because I am here to talk about something that has changed and continue to change lives locally and the world,” said Col Molale.

Mr Shikupa expressed desire to work with fellow Lions, noting that their operations would be anchored on their motto, ‘We Serve.’
He asked for support in fundraising for community service saying they looked forward to starting work in earnest and servicing local and global communities.

For her part, regional chairperson Ms Meera Chandra in presenting the charter and pins to the new club members, said the launch was intended to inspire the new club’s officers to accept the commitment and challenges of voluntary service. ENDS
