Give priority to income projects

07 Mar 2017

Representatives from different village committees and other stakeholders have been asked to give priority to income-generating projects and those that will create employment opportunities for community to be carried out with the P10 million constituency fund.

A social worker from Serowe Administrative Authority (SAA), Ms Rachel Zibani said reintroduction of constituency funding was to increase delivery of infrastructure at local level, while providing further income-generating activities and employment opportunities.

With each constituency having been allocated P10 million, she said consultations had been held in Serowe West, Serowe North and Serowe South constituencies.
The SAA district officer development, Ms Peggy Moatlhodi said projects such as day care centres should be among those that are considered as they help in children upbringing while at the same time create employment for the community.

Kgosi Mokopakgomo Kgomokgwana of Moiyabana called for cooperation, saying all relevant stakeholders should be involved.
Magistrate Tshepo Magetse stated that concentration should not be on infrastructural development, but service delivery should also be taken into consideration.
Mannonnye ward councillor, Mr Lesedi Leepetswe explained that the programme was not a new initiative as it had existed before, but had to be halted as a result of economic meltdown.

Projects proposed included renovation of Village VDC houses, construction of internal roads, kgotla shelters and renovation of classrooms, among others. ENDS
