02 Mar 2017

Serokolwane Lawns is set to host this year's Son of The Soil (SOTS) this weekend kicking off with a Metswaisong evening chillas on March 3 and then the main event on March 4.

Bana Ba Mmala publicity and media relations officer, Pontsho Pusoetsile said in an interview that they postponed the event which was to be staged on February 25 due to heavy rains.

“We were also advised that the safety of those setting up sound equipment and marquees for the event could not be guaranteed in those conditions,” Pusoetsile said.

He noted that all tickets remain valid for the weekend event and explained that those affected by the date change could return their tickets for refund at all Computicket centres.

The main event, he said would be broken into dikgotla and shall be designated as Ga-loapi (blue), Ga-tshweu (white), Ga-tshwana (black), Ga-sebilo (brown) and Ntsweng, which would be a small kgotla for invited guests and would not compete in any of the events.

“Entry into the main event will be based on the kgotla system. Care will be taken to ensure a family, or group of friends, are assigned to the same kgotla, except in instances where a kgotla is fully subscribed. Sitting arrangements during the day will also be based on the kgotla system (e.g. all the Ga-Loapi Kgotla members will have a designated marquee for their Kgotla),” he said.

Pusoetsile indicated competitions would be based on the kgotla system.

“A winner will  earn points for their kgotla  and also win an individual prize. The events that will be competed for by the different dikgotla are Batho Safe, mmiliki, dibeke, mhele, morabaraba, seragantshwane, best dressed, go-thenkeletsa, sack race, tyre pushing race and dikhwaere,” he said.
