Clubs must spend wisely

13 Jun 2013

Clubs that take part in the constituency tournaments have been urged to wisely use the monetary rewards they get from the tournaments.

Assistant district commissioner, Patrick Isaac advised in an interview that long term investment needed to be encouraged in the Kgalagadi South region since many teams chose to spend their prize money on short term projects, which could not sustain their survival.

Isaac challenged teams to emulate a certain team in the Kweneng region, which invested its money in creation of small projects that in turn created income for the club. He also cited Desert Queens in Maun, which he said bought a mini bus, as worthy of emulating.

However, the assistant district commissioner, who also coordinated the Kgalagadi South tournaments, admitted that Conipack of Maralaleng was the only team in the region, which put their money to good use.

Conipack bought blankets for the elderly people of Maralaleng during circle 11 of the tournament. "I can account for that because the district commissioner’s office received an invite when the packages were handed over,” he said.

For good financial management, he said clubs should submit financial reports to his office, but said this was not mandatory.

He highlighted that as from inception, the main purpose of the tournament was to improve the lives of talented young Batswana, as well as to curb social ills such as alcohol and substance abuse which formed part of everyday worries.

Meanwhile, the Kgalagadi South region would be represented by four teams at the regional finals billed for June 22-23 in Jwaneng. These teams are Beyond 2016 Volleyball Club for both men and women teams, Platinum Stars Netball Team and Young Strikers Football Team. ENDS
