Disseminate information on government programmes
01 Mar 2017
Southern District Commissioner, Mr Mmoloki Raletobana has urged public servants to disseminate information about government assistance programmes and policies available well in time to leaders in the locality and members of the community.
Mr Raletobana said their responsibility was to promote government programmes and rural development in Botswana.
He was giving a keynote address at a District Disaster Management Committee meeting held in Kanye recently.
He said public servants should facilitate policy objectives, provide exclusive support to the ministries’ extension service like disseminating information on agricultural development programmes, policies and projects to farming communities, extension staff and interested stakeholders in the country at large.
He said their function was to work hand in hand with various departments in implementing their various extension services.
Therefore, he urged officers to be seen to be providing relevant information dissemination and public relations in terms of being more responsible to the needs of the ministries and the community at large.
He therefore urged social and community officers to report in time any disaster damages occurring in their respective place of work, adding that they should work closely with councillors and dikgosi.
Various disaster sub-committees reported about recent disasters following torrential rains. Members reported that most of mud huts have collapsed, submerged and some of the crops in the fields were swept away by floods.
They reported that they have assisted with tents and food those who have been affected. ENDS
