Field owners reluctant to surrender land

01 Mar 2017

Mogoditshane/Thamaga Sub-council chairperson, Mr Duncan Ramasiagopana has called on councillors to encourage people in their localities to cooperate with the Mogoditshane Sub-Land Board on issues of land allocation.

Addressing a sub-council meeting recently, Mr Ramasiagopana said currently the Sub-Land Board was faced with high demand for land.

He pointed out that the Mogoditshane Sub-Land Board was faced with high demand for land, noting that residential plots waiting list currently stood at 140 000.

“The problem is exacerbated by the fact that there are competing needs and reluctance by property owners particularly fields owners to surrender their land to the land board over compensation issues. I am therefore appealing to you to continue to liaise with your constituents on the importance of their cooperation with the land board to facilitate the land board’s ability to deliver on its mandate to timeously allocate land,” he said.

On the just ended national land registration exercise, Mr Ramasiagopana said since 2013, the Mogoditshane Sub-Land Board received a total of 24 598 claims both for itself and other land boards.

He said since the commencement of the exercise in 2013, a total of 27 406 plots were inspected and surveyed in Mogoditshane, out of which only 18 894 had so far come forth to claim their plots, leaving a total of 8 512 yet to claim their plots. ENDS
