Art Handz makes waves
28 Feb 2017
As the level of creativity continues to take new heights, young Nkange-born Benjamin Boitumelo is making waves with his customised shoe drawings.
As the founder of his own label, Art Handz, incepted in 2014, Boitumelo, a student at Limkokwing University, began with painting his own shoes to make them look new and artistic at the same time.
He said his love for art dates back to his secondary school days, and that his love for entrepreneurship triggered him to start his own unique brand.
Interestingly, the artistically gifted lad is studying event management, yet after creating his Facebook page (Art Hands), customers began to flock into it in search of his services.
He charges P170 to P200 for galaxy designs, while other detailed designs such as emoji’s and cartoons range from P250 to P500.
“I use different kinds of permanent and durable paints such as acrylic and fabric paints,” he added.
The young man says his work is now getting recognition more than ever before now that he can play around with a lot of designs as per customers’ requests.
“My skill calls for constant research for new designs, which I then attach to the shoe; the future looks bright for me because I am already attracting potential customers from within and outside Botswana including South Africa, UK, and US, among others.
“I am also looking forward to working with a number of upcoming artists, photographers, musicians, fashion gurus and I am releasing merchandise for another brand to be called Amateki culture,” he said. ENDS
