28 Feb 2017

Tonota residents have agreed with their Member of Parliament, Mr Thapelo Olopeng to use their share of the P10 million Constituency Development Fund to install streets lights and maintain internal roads in the village.

Speaking during a kgotla meeting on February 27, Mr Olopeng who is also the Minister of  Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development said that the village needeed streetlights and good roads to improve its image and increase its value as it was closer to the second city.

He indicated that with these developments, residents in the village would be able to rent out their houses with city market prices.

For their part, residents agreed with the idea of installing street lights but pleaded with their MP to consider the building of culverts for the road which leads to the  main cemetery.

One resident, Mr Mooketsi Kelebile explained that due to heavy rains, people could not access the cemetery.

Another resident, Ms Baboloki Ramabogo from Tonota West also noted that they needed a shelter for  the main kgotla because during rainy days, they could not hold their meetings due to lack of a shelter.

MP Olopeng encouraged the residents to take dikhwaere seriously as they united the community and urged them to prepare for upcoming competitions and for parents to support youth because they could go far with parental support. ENDS
