Fruit of Life Church in Selebi Phikwe has been commended for donating a house to 87-year-old Mr Rabasebi Motsaakgang of Mmadinare.

Permanent Secretary to the President, Mr Carter Morupisi said the gesture demonstrated love towards the less privileged members of society and that the church was a compassionate and caring organisation.

Mr Morupisi was speaking at the occasion to hand over the house to the beneficiary in Mmadinare on February 25 saying the move was in line with the President’s Housing Appeal initiative.

He said the initiative’s objective was to provide shelter to the less privileged and afford them a dignified life.

Mr Morupisi said so far 700 houses had been handed over to beneficiaries and more were still being built.

He urged fellow Batswana, churches and businesses to emulate Fruit of Life Church and other contributors.

The Permanent Secretary to the President called on parents to encourage children to attend church as the institution mould them into responsible, accountable and caring citizens.

On other issues, Mr Morupsi urged residents affected by the closure of the BCL Mine not to lose hope, saying government was working round the clock to help resuscitate the economy of the region and asked for residents’ role in the endeavor.

He said a Fish Hatchery Project earmarked for Mmadinare was expected to impact on the economy of the village and create employment, adding that the economic diversification drive plan for the region was in place to help revive its economy.

Deputy mayor of Selebi Phikwe, Mr Molefhi Pilane who was said to have been instrumental in the Fruit of Life Church project, said the church from Sesame South ward in Selebi Phikwe had done a good job.

Meanwhile, Pastor Samuel Mabingo from Fruit of Life Church said the church was responsible for helping the less privileged members of society.

He said their obligation was to spread the word of God and love to society through good deeds and were happy to have assisted. ENDS
