27 Feb 2017

Botswana is said to be ahead of other African countries on internet usage with 690 000 having access to the Internet and almost 92 per cent on Facebook.

Speaking during a digital kgotla conference in Gaborone recently, Raidar business development manager, Mr Graeme Lay said global social statistics showed that at least one in four people worldwide use social networking.

Mr Lay said digital advertising had grown and most consumers expected expansion of reliable Wi-Fi.

He further said though considered the oldest, email marketing was reliable because most traditional marketers still used it, while mobile marketing influenced customers to buy products and services online.

Lead strategist at Sky Girls BW, an organisation whose objective is to increase confidence and decision making capacity on teenage girls in Botswana, Ms Elle Brooks said social media was a tool they used to market services.

Ms Brooks also said many businesses today used digital media as it was cost effective, interactive and was precise to measure as one could enumerate the number of visits to their social media pages. ENDS
