Council to facilitate implementation of projects

27 Feb 2017

Tutume Sub-district assistant council secretary, Mr Uyapo Mafunye says the council will facilitate implementation of projects under the newly introduced Constituency Development Fund.

Speaking at a consultative meeting attended by dikgosi and leaders from the 10 villages that make up the Shashe West constituency in Tutume recently, Mr Mafunye said they would engage Ipelegeng employees in most of the projects.

“The intention is to cut costs so that all the projects selected for this financial year will be completed within budget without the need to carry them forward,” he said.

He said the fund was going to run along with National Development Plan 11, with each constituency getting P10 million for the next six years.

“As implementers we are going to ensure that all the projects planned for each financial year are done and completed within the stipulated period,” he said.

He noted that council would compile all proposed projects for each village and calculate the costs and forward to the sub-district council and finally to the ministry for approval.

He stressed that proposals would be subjected to prioritisation on the basis of implementation costs and the benefits to the community.

Furthermore, he pointed out that tendering processes would not be employed because it becomes very expensive to go that route, adding that, for instance, an LA2  house could cost more than half a million if subjected to tendering; hence the engagement of Ipelegeng employees for labour.

“But note that we will have qualified skilled personnel to undertake skilled works,” he said.

He urged those with skills on bricklaying, carpentry, painting, and plumbing, among others, to register with their respective village development committees for forwarding to social workers.

He warned that the tendency by local contractors to abandon work before finishing or present poor quality work will not be tolerated.

In addition, he said inspection of the works would be the order of the day. ENDS
