Venson-Moitoi attends ISPDC

GABORONE - Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation, Dr Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi has left for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to attend the SADC Inter-State on Politics and Diplomacy Committee (ISPDC) meeting, which starts February 24.

A news release from the ministry states that the Inter-State on Politics and Diplomacy Committee will deliberate on key issues among them the review of the political and security situation, as well as the consolidation of democracy in the region.

Upon conclusion of the ISPDC meeting, Dr Venson-Moitoi will travel to Geneva, Switzerland, to attend the 34th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) from Monday until Thursday, states the release.

The release further states that the session will feature a high-level segment of the ministers of foreign affairs as well as ministers responsible for human rights, who will participate in a panel discussions on Promoting the Mainstreaming of

Human Rights Throughout the United Nations System and The Question of the Death Penalty.

Other issues on the Agenda of the Human Rights Council, according to the release, will include dialogues on various human rights related issues such as rights of children, rights of persons with disabilities, rights of human rights defenders, elimination of racial discrimination and human rights situations in selected countries.

The minister is expected back home on March 3. BOPA
