Venson-Moitoi divides constituency fund

22 Feb 2017

Member of Parliament for Serowe South, Dr Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi has allocated eight wards under her constituency P1 million each from the P10 million constituency fund.

During a consultative meeting with Village Development Committees (VDCs) and councillors in Serowe on Friday, Dr Venson-Moitoi called for prioritisation of projects that will be funded from the constituency fund.

She explained that the remaining P2 million would be used for contingencies in wards where there was dire need in their quest for developmental agenda.

She appealed for village representatives to furnish her with prospective projects and cautioned them that the allocated amount could not meet all their needs. In calling for prioritisation of projects to be undertaken, she anchored such on the Setswana saying ‘bana ba motho ba kgaogana thogwana ya ntsi’ loosely showing the need to share the little among the wards.

However, the area MP clarified that projects planned for National Development Plan 11 would not be financed from the P10million and called for scrutiny and cross-checking.
On other issues, Dr Venson-Moitoi reiterated that she would not be standing for the 2019 general elections. She however, offered to assist the constituency in identifying a suitable candidate to represent their interests.

She also told her electorate that she, together with her campaign  team, put up a gallant fight for the African Union Commission chairmanship despite facing well-resourced competitors. For their part, VDC members together with cllrs enumerated their priorities to their legislator.

In order to address shortage of accommodation for public servants, renovations and upgrading of classrooms and toilets were amongst those making top of the list. BOPA
