22 Feb 2017

The Assistant Minister of Basic Education and Skills Development Mr Moiseraele Goya has expressed gratitude to citizens  who are investing in children’s education under the Adopt-A-School initiative.

Speaking at Botlhapatlou Primary school prize giving ceremony themed: Keetshabe trophy of academy excellence: towards 2016, the assistant minister noted the input made by Advocate Abraham Keetshabe and his family by adopting the school.

The Keetshabes adopted the school from 2010 to 2016 with the aim of helping improve its performance.

The school attained 70 per cent pass rate in the 2016 Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) and most of the students who were sitting for the exams, were those who were in Standard One when the Keetshabes adopted the school.

Mr Goya said education was one of the contributing factors to economic growth of any country, urging parents and teachers to work together in improving the performance of students.

He cautioned parents who were not actively taking part in their children’s studies.

He said such parents have resorted to leaving all the responsibilities of moulding their children into responsible citizens to teachers.

Minister Goya expressed delight that the Adopt-A-School initiative was bringing positive impact to most schools including Botlhapatlou.

Advocate Keetshabe who was a pupil at Botlhapatlou said the initiative did not only focus on adopting the school but giving words of encouragement to students even when at secondary school.

“I have visited all students who are beneficiaries of this initiative.

They are doing very well,” he said. Advocate Keetshabe said it was never an easy road but he thanked parents who gave him support and turned the initiative into success.

Mr Obakeng Kenathetswe of Kenneth investment stated that Advocate Keetshabe’s commitment in children’s education has influenced them to play their part in improving children’s education in Botlhapatlou.

He said as the Keetshabe’s agreement with the school comes to an end, they will be taking over to ensure that the initiative remains alive.

He said their aim was to invest in both academic and non-academic. BOPA
