Churches donate to Ratsie Setlhako school

12 Jun 2013

Thirty five disabled students from a special class at Ratsie Setlhako Primary School in Palapye received an assortment of toiletry from four churches.

The four were Jerusalem, Bethlehem, African Born Full Gospel (AB) and Baitshenkedi Community Choir. The school also received P1 500 from Grembo Security Company in Palapye.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, an official from the Palapye Sub-district administration, Mrs Gadifele Selapa, said the Palapye community was grateful to have Ratsie Setlhako Primary School, which offered special education.

Ms Selepa said the school gave children living with disability an opportunity to attend school and get quality education just like other children in the country. She urged parents to take full responsibility of their children regardless of their disability and also encouraged parents to send such to school as they too had the right to education.

The school head, Mrs Mpho Ofetotse said her school was faced with the challenge of shortage of teachers, adding that there were only 19 teachers including the school head and one teacher for the 35-student special class.

Ms Ofetotse also noted that the special class was not ‘special’ in the real sense because it did not have appropriate resources such as toilets and bathrooms, adding that they were using one of the usual classrooms to accommodate the students.

“I would be happy if the government could help the school by hiring more teachers and building a special classroom for the special class,” she appealed. ENDS
