Mahotshwane bowses water

22 Feb 2017

Parliament was told that Mahotshwane village is currently supplied with water through bowsing from Sekoma village. Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation services Mr Itumeleng Moipisi said this when responding to a question in Parliament on Tuesday.

“This is financially not viable as this is expensive and not sustainable,” he said.

Mr Moipisi said as an intervention, the proposed interconnection of Mahotshwane water supply scheme project has been identified as an emergency project.

The proposed project entails drilling of additional boreholes in Sekoma wellfield, construction of approximately 40 km transmission pipeline from Sekoma to Mahotshwane, electrification of four existing boreholes in Sekoma wellfield and telemetry system.

He further said the project could not commence due to unavailability of funds, adding that funds amounting to P150 million have been requested through Emergency Project Financing and if approved during this financial year 2017/2018, Mahotshwane could be connected immediately over a duration of 24 months leading up to 2019.

“It is fundamentally important to note that commencement of the project is depended upon approval of emergency project financing,” he said.

The minister was responding to a question from the Member of Parliament for Jwaneng-Mabutsane, Mr Shawn Ntlhaile who asked the minister when he would provide water to the residents of Mahotshwane village.
