Member of Parliament for Maun East, Mr Konstantinos Markus has commended Moremi III Memorial School for its academic excellence after obataining position three in last year’s examination.
Speaking at the school’s excellence awards ceremony on Friday, Mr Markus, who is also a former Moremi student, encouraged the school management to aim for position one this year.
He thanked teachers and Parents Teachers Association (PTA) for working as a team in moulding students into future leaders .
On the other hand, Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) manager in Maun, Mr Edward Magosi also commended teachers for showing commitment and enthusiasm in their work.
Mr Magosi advised teachers to keep up the good performance.
He said teachers had defied the odds despite challenges they usually encountered.
The school performed well in the past three consecutive years and had attained position three in 2015 and 2016.
“In life, you do not wake up in the morning and become successful instantly, but it takes courage and determination to accomplish your dream,” he said.
He stated that the government was doing its best to provide teachers and students with all the necessary resources.
Again, he indicated that teachers and parents had a role to enlighten students on a daily basis about the importance of education considering that “they are still young to understand why they are in school.”
Further, he commended teachers who took the responsibility in playing the parenting role which resulted in pupils’ good performance.
North West regional director, Mr Galesengwe Mohube applauded the school for retaining position three in the past two years, but challenged them to aim for position one or maintain their position.
“The ministry’s target mark is 80 per cent and therefore Moremi’s results are worth celebrating since they have surpassed the target,” Mr Mohube said.
He also commended the school for implementing their own result-oriented culture towards achieving a common goal despite lack of resources which had been a drawback in many schools in the country, especially those in rural areas.
Head of department, Ms Grace Makgoba said commitment, passion, love, teamwork, diligence and transparency helped them earn the excellent results.
Ms Makgoba indicated that teachers were determined to go an extra mile especially with students who were slow learners by having extra lessons after school for them to catch up with others.
She explained that every year when results came out, teachers and parents met to analyse the results and set target mark.
The school head, Ms Ngonda Setlhare said the school had registered the ABC pass rate of 58, 62, 65, 83 and 85.3 per cent respectively from 2012 to 2016.
Ms Setlhare said the good results had seen the school enrolling 783 pupils from 568 pupils in previous years.
However, she decried lack of resources as one major challenge and wished a Good Samaritan could adopt her school one day. BOPA
