Three names for two vacant posts

20 Feb 2017

Residents of Bobonong have presented three names of nominees they want to occupy two vacant posts of senior sub tribal authority and that of a headman of record in the Bobonong kgotla.

The nominated names to fill the two vacant posts in the kgotla are of Mr Ezekiel Joel of Sekoba ward, kgosi Dimakatso Patane, a headman of record and that of kgosi Onketetse Serumola a headman of arbitration at Serumola ward.

The two posts fell vacant following the retirement from service of kgosi Mmirwa Malema who was the senior sub tribal authority (SSTA) and that of headman of record Kgosi Adam Masilo who died last year.

Suggesting the names before Bangwato deputy regent,  Kgosi Serogola Seretse,  Mr Joseph Maphula of Makala ward stated that the tribe has held consultative meeting and agreed that Mr Joel ascend to the post of SSTA while kgosi Patane  should be elevated to the post that was previously held by the late kgosi Masilo.

Mr Maphula said the name of Mr Joel of Sekoba ward was suggested before the tribe because he was their senior in the area and that kgosi  Patane to be his immediate assistant because he has experience in the bogosi matters.

Supporting the suggested names Mr Lempositse Sepelong of Sekoba ward   said Mr Joel who is the younger brother to the deceased was relevant for the post and stated that kgosi Patane would provide a proper guidance as his assistant.

Mr Thuso Kgosietsile  of Dandane also support the two  names and stated that Sekoba ward was the most senior ward in Bobirwa and that Kgosi Modisaotsile ruled together with Sekoba in the past.

Mr Kgosietsile stated that there was proper consultation prior to this meeting.

Another speaker Mr Kosy Mashaba supported Mr Joel’s name but said the bogosi in the area was not hereditary but should  be rotational among the wards of the village.

Mr Otisitwe Serumola of Serumola ward nominated kgosi Onketetse Serumola of Serumola ward a headman of arbitration at the ward to take over the post left by kgosi Malema and also indicated that dikgosana of different wards had agreed that     the posts  in the Bobonong kgotla should be rotational when a vacancy was created but not to be the prerogative of the same wards.

Mr Molao Serumola also from Serumola ward suggested kgosi Onketetse Serumola’s to take over stating that the bogosi in the kgotla was rotational and it was Serumola’s turn to take over.

However kgosi Letso Malema of Molalatau also a representative of Ntlo ya Dikgosi raised a concern that Bobonong was made up of 10 villages  that includes Molalatau, Tsetsebye, Lepokole, Semolale, Mabolwe, Moletemane, Gobojango, Mathathane, Tshokwe and Motlhabaneng and that residents of such villages were never consulted.

But Ms Gaotlhobogwe Gaborone stated that she was concerned that being the elder of the Sekoba’s she was never consulted in the whole process of choosing the successor.

For his part kgosi Mokhutshwane Sekgoma who was also present,  stated that they would take the three names of messers Joel, Patane and Serumola to Bangwato regent kgosi Sediegeng Kgamane for recommendation. BOPA
