The second president of Botswana Sir Ketumile Masire has described education as an important component of national building.

Unveiling the ‘Wall of Fame’ at Seepapitso Senior Secondary School in Kanye on Friday, Sir Ketumile Masire noted that the Wall of Fame will honour individuals and students for their contributions and achievements as recognition and record for history.

The Wall of Fame was made possible by the Seepapitso Class of 1986, a group of former students who attended Seepapitso Secondary School in Kanye and completed in 1986.

The class aims to contribute meaningfully to the development of communities especially education related initiatives.

“Education benefits all. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that we are connected and involved in our schools’,’ Sir Ketumile said.

The former president indicated that when schools are stronger and well supported, communities and countries emerge better off.

He said education both formal and informal had been a great influence on lives, adding that members of class of 86 could attest to the role that education has had on their lives, hence their decision to give back by setting up the Wall of Fame.

“But it does more than that. It serves as a constant reminder of the contributions our chiefs have made in promoting good relations amongst people , resolving conflict, preserving culture, and building consensus, amongst others,’’ he said.

The chairperson of SSS class of 86, Mr Tshepiso Mosilenyane said the Wall of Fame was an initiative implemented by former students of Seepapitso Secondary School who managed to raise P105 000 from their pockets to ensure its success.

Mr Motsilenyane said the intention was to capture the illustrious history of the school the school community, and to encourage and inspire a legacy of future excellence. Top achievers names would be displayed at the wall.

He said it was also to improve on academic excellence and student’s welfare and with hope that the students and school community will be inspired to consistently perform at exceptional levels.

In his welcoming remarks Kgosi Malope II of Bangwaketse commended class of 86 for the spirit of motivation in the school.

He encouraged upcoming students to copy the gesture.

The director, regional operations, South Region Mr Agrewnews Maseko applauded class of 86 for ‘the wonderful job’ which he said acted as a catalyst in improving students’ abilities. BOPA
