Academic hospital sets up in Francistown
15 Feb 2017
The Minister of Health and Wellness Ms Dorcas Makgato has implored Indus Health Care not to overburden the community with high hospital bills.
Speaking at the ground breaking of the P150 million Francistown Academic Hospital on February 14, Ms Makgato said the hospital construction would bring about employment with 800 jobs expected and economic diversification.
She applauded the private sector for coming up with such a project, stating that government alone could not handle the entire health spectrum in the country.
The minister said the hospital would provide various transplants for patients because hospitals in the country could not provide such and sent patients abroad.
Ms Makgato encouraged stakeholders to build a social relationship with the community and give back to them and not for the community to be giving to them only.
The director of Indus Health Care Mr Navtej Singh said the project would be a phased development for 150 beds hospital .
Mr Singh said the hospital would not only benefit Francistown but the community surrounding the country’s second city.
He also added that the hospital was going to promote health skill sharing in the country as it was going to generate a large number of jobs for skilled and unskilled labour.
In her welcome remarks, the Francistown city mayor Ms Sylvia Muzila said the hospital would not only cater for the citizens of the country but also for other countries such as Zimbabwe as it was near the city. ENDS
