Proactive committees helpful
14 Feb 2017
Head of Bobirwa District Health Management Team (DHMT), Dr Jackson Kaguamba has encouraged Village Health Committees (VHCs) to be proactive in educating residents about health matters.
Dr Kaguamba said in an interview recently that VHCs were established and mandated to work hand in hand with health workers within their communities as well as report issues affecting them.
He added that the presence of such committees in the village should have positive impact in so far as health education was concerned because they were able to reach many areas.
Since members interact with committees, Dr Kaguamba said they were better placed to learn about their concerns and report to health workers.
However, he expressed concern about the gap he said existed between the public and health practitioners.
On the other hand, Bobirwa DHMT health promotion and education officer, Mr Mompati Marole said village health committees constitued responsible, trusted and respected individuals with passion in health issues.
Mr Marole said the committees had done a lot in sensitising the public on health matters.
As a result, Mr Marole encouraged residents, particularly those aged above 18 to join the committees and assist government. ENDS
