Costs inhibit street lights installation

13 Feb 2017

The Tonota-Francistown road is provided with lights at major junctions and build up areas to increase visibility and avert potential accidents where there is conflict of motorists and pedestrians or generally accidents prone areas.
This was said by transport and communications minister, Mr Kitso Mokaila, when responding to a question in parliament from Francistown South MP, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi.
To enhance visibility, Mr Mokaila said “it will be ideal to provide street lights through the full stretch of Tonota-Francistown.”
However, he said his ministry was constrained by the project budget hence they only provided street lights on accident prone areas, adding that such a project would cost approximately P45 million.
Mr Mmolotsi had asked the minister to state why the full stretch of the Francistown-Tonota dual carriageway road could not be provided with lights and how much such a project would cost. ENDS
