Strength of character does it for Galaxy

13 Feb 2017

Jwaneng Galaxy Football Club coach Mike Sithole says strength of character is the secret behind his team’s rise to the top of BTC premiership table.
Sithole told BOPA in an interview yesterday after his skilful winger Thero Setsile scored a brace during a 4-0 onslaught on the visiting Mahalapye United Hotspurs during a match played in Jwaneng on Saturday. Setsile scored a minute after the word go, and his goal would perhaps go on record not only as being the earliest to be scored this season, but also as a statement to teams due to visit the mining town soon.
The second and third goals were scored by Thabang Sesinyi and Tebogo Sembowa respectively.
Galaxy FC came to the match three points behind log leaders Township Rollers but after the win they are now at par with 31 points apiece.
The experienced Sithole attributes the rise to the fact that he always tell his charges to play like underdogs, something he was happy to share, has worked like charm for him at the club since he took over last year.
He says he also encourages his boys to enjoy the game as much as they can adding they do not have to play for anything since it is only their second appearance in the elite league.
“Focus on playing as underdogs, enjoy the game as much as you can and see how it would take us to the end of the season.
But at home we have to make sure we maximize, away a draw is ok, but when we play here we have to maximise. But as time goes by I think we will be a force to reckon with,” he said.
He says he was particularly happy that his team had managed a draw against Gilport Lions FC earlier during the week before the encounter with Spurs which he further described as a show of strength of character.
As with other victims, the Galaxy combination of Lesego Lubinda, Sembowa, Setsile and Sesinyi marshalled by Olebogeng Malebye and Tebogo Sosome was more than what the visitors had bargained for.
Although they could knit a few neat passes together in the middle of the park, Spurs never posed any threat to keeper Anthony Gouws and veteran Boitumelo Mafoko on the rear guard. The team also failed to put numbers behind the ball in attack. ENDS
