Kgosi hails RADP initiative

09 Feb 2017

Kgosi Motsamai Kgosi of Kutamogoree in Tutume Sub-district says the provision of shelter under the Remote Areas Development Programme (RADP) plays a notable role towards decent shelter for the needy people who live in the rural areas.

He said in an interview that though some of the less priviledged were often faced with challenges of poor living conditions, government is working tirelessly to come up with initiatives meant to reduce assist them.

Since 2013 to date, he said a total of 20 houses had been built under the RADP housing initiative through the Tutume Sub-council and that 12 of them were complete and in use.

“The houses have already been handed over to the intended beneficiaries.

Four other houses are awaiting handover, while the rest are still under construction,”  he said.

In addition, he said two other houses had also been built under the Presidential Housing Appeal initiative.

Thus, he hailed the housing initiative as a milestone development that had not only rescued beneficiaries from harsh weather conditions, but also transformed the village landscape.

“Today some of the less privileged members of our society, who used live under dilapidated structures that exposed them to harsh weather conditions, have a roof over their heads,” he said.

He further said the houses were a gesture that had developed and fortified confidence among beneficiaries and instilled a sense of belonging to the community.

Also, the traditional leader pointed out that beneficiaries were not selected based on favouritism as some people perceive.

He said they were assessed by Social and Community Development (S&CD) officials.

Also, he indicated that they had realised that some of the relatives of the beneficiaries had a tendency to fight over such property, while others also had a habit of denying the beneficiaries full access of the materials they were assisted with.

He also criticised some people who abandoned some of their less priviledged family members only to resurface when such people receive assistance.

Though most of Kutamogoree residents were receiving assistance form government, he noted that the beneficiaries were taking care of their donations, adding that there was also a significant change in their lives. ENDS
