Projects implemented under the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) in Makwate are progressing well, says councillor for Makwate,Taupye and Shakwe Mr Thopho Kudumane.
Mr Kudumane said in an interview recently that some projects had been completed before the actual completion time and ready to be handed over.
He said projects were offices, holding cells and parking sheds in Makwate adding that the office was a type two package, which include office furniture.
“Holding cells and parking sheds are at 80 per cent and the contractors are doing their best to complete project. The projects were carried out by citizen-owned companies,” he said.
Further, he said citizen-owned contractors had the potential to do work assigned, therefore they should be given chance to prove themselves.
“This is the type of contractors government could work with because completion of projects on time reduce costs,” he said.
As such, he encouraged other contractors working on government projects to follow suit and deliver projects on stipulated time.
He reiterated that progress of the project comes from the mutual relations from all the stakeholders, who actively participated in project monitoring on monthly basis.
He explained that stakeholders such as community leaders, dikgosi and project managers were all hands on in monitoring the project for successful implementation.
Mr Kudumane said the project had positively benefited the people of Makwate in terms of job creation and community development.
He implored contractors to pay their employees on time to ensure completion of projects on time.
Also, he said the projects had helped to improve the economy of the village because the money was circulating and shop owners benefited as well.
“By employing local people you will be injecting revenue into the local businesses thus boosting the economy,” he said.
In addition, he said the construction of Mookane-Machaneng road carried out under the ESP would help to revive the economy of the villages by employing community members.
Mr Kudumane had praised the programme because it had helped to address backlog of projects, which were deffered due to the economic meltdown. ENDS
