NDB transformation strategy to enhance efficiency - Matambo
09 Feb 2017
The National Development Bank (NDB) Structural Realignment Exercise is part of the bank’s overall transformation strategy to enhance its operational efficiencies by ensuring that there is alignment between systems, processes and people.
Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Kenneth Matambo said this in response to a question from the Member of Parliament for Gaborone North, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa.
Mr Matambo said the bank embarked on the exercise in the financial year 2010/11, which ended in 2012/13.
The exercise also led to a revised organisational structure with 13 positions identified for retrenchment. In addition, he said 10 staff members opted for voluntary exit resulting in a total of 23 staff members retrenched.
“Currently, NDB does not have any plans to retrench more employees. However the bank continues to improve its business operations ahead of the commercialisation and privatisation exercises,” he said.
Minister Matambo further said a continued review of the bank‘s operation was necessary to assist the bank to ultimately define a business model that would be used to apply for a banking licence. The impact of this review on people, processes and systems would be known at the time of the definition of the business model, he said.
Furthermore, he said none of the retrenched employees had been employed back into the same posts after retrenchment, adding that none of those positions which they held were no longer in the current structure.
The Gaborone North legislator had wanted to know how many employees were retrenched by NDB during their retrenchment processes and if there were any plans by the parastatal to further retrench more employees, and how many had been employed into the same positions following retrenchments. ENDS
