Mahalapye/ Machaneng road overpass was on Monday February 6 closed  pending reconstruction.

In an interview with BOPA, Mahalapye Sub District Road engineer Mr Kethusegile Lempoetse said the 1.0km road distance would be closed for a period of eight weeks as the road would be under construction.

Mr Lempoetse said the road was damaged by the recent rains leaving it with unavoidable potholes.

He explained that Mahalapye Sub Distict Council would undertake the resealing of the road, adding that they have engaged a private construction company to do the work.

He therefore appealed to motorists, road users and residents to abide by the changes, regretting any inconvenience that may have been caused.

Mr Lempoetse said during the road closure the public would use the old Mahalapye/Machaneng road joining A1 road at a T-junction opposite Mahalapye Magistrate Court beside Trans from Boseja tarred road T-junction on the Mahalapye/ Machaneng road.

He advised road users to be very careful when using the new road since it crosses the railway line as there was no bar-line.

He said preparations for the new road were on-going and the new road would be accessible by Monday. ENDS
