Farmers expect bumper harvest
06 Feb 2017
Improved yield is expected in Barolong farms following this year’s good rains, according to senior technician at Good Hope crop research centre, Mr Phemoyaone Keaja.
Mr Keaja said a considerable number of farmers in Barolong farms had taken advantage of the recent good rains.
He said 2080.26 hectares, which translated to 486 farmers, among them 121 youths had ploughed through the Integrated Support Programme for Arable Agricultural Development (ISPAAD) programme.
Mr Keaja, however, said they expected the number to increase since they were still receiving submissions of approval of ploughed fields from beneficiaries.
He said farmers had mostly ploughed maize followed by beans, something he attributed to a risathe ploughing season went well thanks to good rains. Like many farmers in the area, Mr Seduku was looking forward to a bumper harvest. ENDS
