Inmates undergo training
02 Feb 2017
Forty inmates are currently attending a 10 day Ministry Development and Leadership course at Ghanzi state prison.
The course, which is conducted by prisons services and coordinated by Reverend Dr John Phillip has attracted trainees from different prisons of Molepolole, Tsabong, Tshane and Ghanzi.
When welcoming inmates at the workshop recently, acting officer in Charge for Ghanzi Prison, Superintendent Petros Khumalo called on trainees to take the course seriously saying it had the potential to change society’s perception with regard to prisoners.
“It is always difficult to get the society to believe that inmates have been fully rehabilitated at the end of their prison term,” he said.
Chaplain coordinator of Botswana Prisons Services, Senior Superintendent, Anastacia Ramotshabi said as per their mandate of safe custody of inmates as well as training and rehabilitation, the department takes pride in moulding inmates.
Senior Superintendent Ramotshabi paid tribute to churches for the rehabilitation of inmates and wished more churches could come forward in this regard.
“There is need to teach in-depth the word of God to inmates and make sure they grasp it,” she said. ENDS
