Japan values relations with Botswana

The Japanese ambassador to Botswana Mr Masahiro Onishi has told the media that they value their relationship with Botswana.
Updating the media on their 2017 calendar of events in Gaborone on February 1 he stated that the two countries had worked together on different projects which he said had benefited many Batswana.
Mr Onishi said one of their key projects was the grant assistance for grass roots human security projects which assists non-governmental oragnisations, education and medical institutions among others.
He noted that the grant supported small development projects which have direct and immediate impact on the well being of disadvantaged communities at grassroots level.
He announced that on February 15, the embassy would hand over a classroom block at Serameng Primary school in Kweneng District which was constructed under this grant assistance project at a cost of P800 000.
The ambassador stated that this would be the 43rd project funded by Japan in Botswana since the grant scheme was introduced in 1997.
He further highlighted that a different project under the cultural grassroots projects for the construction of the Judo Dojo (training facility) will be completed this month with the handing over ceremony expected end of the month.
Mr Onishi said the embassy had invited an Olympic gold medalist in Judo from Japan to grace the hand over event. ENDS
