02 Feb 2017
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso says the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism has already considered providing water to wildlife by sinking boreholes in strategic areas across the country and Chobe is in the first priority.
Ms Tshreletso told Ntlo ya Dikgosi recently that currently there were over 20 working boreholes that provide water to wildlife in Chobe District.
She added that there was also an ongoing contract to drill and equip additional six boreholes in the Chobe National Park and a tender for drilling was floating until Monday .
Minister Tshireletso was responding on behalf of the Minister of Environment, Natural Resources, Conservation and Tourism to a question asked by Kgosi Moffat Sinvula who wanted to know if the minister would consider providing water to wildlife by sinking boreholes in the Chobe National Park and Forest Reserves in the district to prevent wildlife from wandering into the village in search of water thus causing destruction of environment, farms and killing of wildlife.
