Kgosi Mosweu pleads for botho

01 Feb 2017

Kgosi Oletsositse Mosweu of Dukwi has pleaded for respect, tolerance and botho among Batswana particularly the youth.

He warned the village youth that those who would continue to display wayward behaviour would face stern action.

Kgosi Mosweu sent the warning during a consultative meeting with Mowana Mine representatives recently.

He noted that during the operational times of the mine from 2004 to 2015, the behaviour of many young people changed drastically, as they became wild and showed no respect to the elderly.

Kgosi Mosweu said during that period, they registered a high number of public nuisance cases, such as amplified music played from vehicles, without any respect for families mourning the loss of their loved ones.

In addition, Kgosi Mosweu lamented that during the same period defilement cases escalated, with some going unreported as such activites would had happened while people were under the influence of alcohol.

He appealed that mine employees should come to Dukwi to work and help develop their village, which provides housing for them instead of taking advantage of inhabitants.

Kgosi Mosweu warned that ‘this time around we are going to intensify discipline measures and those caught will leave to tell the story.’

He nonetheless implored the mine management to put in place measures of sensitising their employees on health issues and mostly financial management, noting that after the closure of the mine there were a number of suicides incidents as a result of accumulative debts.

He said during the operation of the mines some employees forget that mineral resources have a life span which can come to halt at any time since it depends on the prices of commodities.

Instead of saving for tomorrow, he said they splash their monies on buying fashionable vehicles and on having good time at any given time they want while accumulating debts on the other side.

Kgosi Mosweu appealed to them to engage financial experts to guide employees on better ways of spending their monies and saving for the future. BOPA
