01 Feb 2017

It is not about how much we give but how much love we put into giving, Mother Theresa said.

This resonates well with Goabaone Ntapu, a 36-year-old man who hails from Mahalapye as he continues to yield good results from the prospect of community building and has made a mark in the society.

In an interview with BOPA recently, Mr Ntapu has explained that he holds various positions in his community, and has made a difference in people’s lives through visible projects.

“In 2014 I was voted for the position of chairperson of Botalaote -Thomadithotse ward Village Development Committee (VDC), in addition I automatically became a member of the Umbrella VDC in which I served a two-year term and later in took the helm of the Umbrella VDC becoming the vice chairperson in 2016, thus making me the youngest leader in the history od VDCs,” he said.

Mr Ntapu further said that he also became the vice chairperson of Mahalapye Hospital Advisory Committee since 2015 as well as the director and founding father of

Tactuful Security Service and he is also the Public Relations Officer of Mahalapye Hot Spurs Football Club.

He said that his key role as a VDC chairperson is to develop the community; in addition it is his mandate to act as the eyes and ears of his community.

In his reign as a VDC chairperson he said he has spearheaded the construction of the kgotla shelter at White City ward, which cost approximately P65 000, which money was accumulated through fundraising.

“I have also initiated a community service for the connection of electricity at Botalaote Kgotla shelter and offices, the offices at the kgotla are occupied by veterinary officers; that is why we felt the urgency to assist, “ he added.

He further explained that he and his colleagues of Mahalapye Hospital Advisory Committee recently saw it befitting to come up with a way of making sure that patients also get to celebrate Botswana’s 50 years of Independence, and this was to bring the BOT50 hype to those that could not go out.

He said that he therefore invited business people to come forward with donations in the form of BOT50 tokens.

The event was a success as patients were able to celebrate the Golden Jubilee.

Mr Ntapu stated that the reason behind this concept was to exercise the Vision 2016 pillar of a just, compassionate and caring nation and to bring hope to the sick.

Moving on to his personal business entity he continued to mention that his security company ,Tactful Security Service,  which is based in Mahalapye and at Palapye, has thus far created employment for 18 youth of Mahalapye and 12 youth of Palapye, and its services are rendered to eight guest houses as well as Makoro brick and tyre.

“The security company does not only provide security services ,we are also hands on a few projects. Currently my company buys gifts for some of the best STD 7 students in Mahalapye every year at the tune of P1 000,” he said.

He added that he wishes to see youngsters of his community going places.

Mr Ntapu said the reason behind the drive to make change in the community is that he takes delight in serving his people and it is essential to give back to the community that raised him.

Meanwhile, he said he is currently planning a project that focuses on rehabilitating Mahalapye River, emphasis being on conserving and preserving its natural status.

In this project he is working in conjunction with his fellow VDC members and Kgosi Tshipe Tshipe. BOPA
