DBES gives back to community

01 Feb 2017

The Department of Building and Engineering Services (DBES), under the Ministry of Infrastructure Science and Technology handed over a home to Mmadipe Mogau of Ntshinoge ward in Mochudi.

When officially handing over the house, Ministry of Infrastructure, Science and Technology wellness coordinator, Ms Kgaotsang Kamwi said  the house will bring happiness to the recipient and reduce her stress levels.

She said it is not everyone who gives,  but giving is a product of love.

She said love is patient so everyone who donates or helps others does so from the bottom of their hearts.

Ms Kamwi also said that team work is important to all departments and everyone because it makes things easier for everyone to participate in charity activities. She said no one can complete a task on their own, but as a team.

A representative from the DBES, Mr Moses Segokgo said his department found it fit to fulfill one of 2016 Vision pillars ‘a caring and compassionate nation,’  saying it was unfortunate that the project was not completed last year when the vision was concluded.

He said the projected started in 2014, but the team was faced  with challenges to start the project because Water Utilities Corporation had stopped their services to the family due to an accummulated bill, but that by God’s grace they managed to pay the bill and continue with the project.

Mr Segokgo stated that they planned on donating a toilet, but decided they cannot handover a newly built toilet only without refurbishing the house.

He said they then went and bought all necessities and renovated the house, which was completed last year November.

Furthermore, Mr Segokgo thanked all the stakeholders involved including Spar, Shoprite, Chand Brothers and Mmapole for their stake in the project, which amounted to over P13 640.

For his part President of Customary Court of Appeal, Kgosi Mothibe Linchwe expressed excitement for being part of the hand over ceremony, adding that leaders should understand their responsibilities and know that they should attend to people’s needs immediately.

He said although the family has been assisted by DBES, it does not mean that the community must look down on them.

In addition, Kgosi Linchwe encouraged Ms Mogau to find other alternative ways to earning a living such as motshelo to help her improve her life so that DBES and other donors can also assist others in need.

The recipient, Ms Mogau gave thanks to everyone who helped her. She said God has been watching her and he provided for her through DBES.

Ms Mogau said DBES has given her the greatesr gift of them all, a home. She thanked the chief for the words of encouragement.

When giving vote of thanks, district performance improvement coordinator, Ms Sesha Kontle thanked DBES for building the house for Ms Mogau and encouraged her to take proper care of it.  Ms Mogau also received food hampers from DBES. BOPA
