Sankoyo supporters raise hand

01 Feb 2017

Sankoyo Bush Bucks supporters have agreed to come up with financial strategies to keep the team afloat.

They said the current situation of the team is despiriting players as far as their welfare is concerned, hence at times they fail to perform to their best level.

Supporters said during a meeting called by the supporters committee to update members about the status of the team and solicit ideas on how best they could assist for its sustenance.

It was reported that players are struggling to survive as they walk long distances to training and on empty stomachs. Another issue that worried the committee was lack of funds to recruit quality players before the window period closes.

The acting chairperson, Sekai Morotsi explained that the technical committee was willing to sign three players, but their hands were tied by financial constraints.

He further stated that a certain group of supporters managed to contribute money and sign one player. It was reported that the concerned group had volunteered to contribute P200 monthly to assist players.

However, supporters raised a concern that the situation does not sit well with them and agreed to at least assist with food packages and transport fare. They also suggested fund-raising activities.

Supporters admitted that they always point a finger at the management and emphasised the need to work as a team and play their role towards the growth and sustenance of the club.

However, some supporters felt their committee, together with the management were not working as a team, noting that most of the time they work in silos. They questioned why the management failed to call a general meeting and update the supporters about some developments in the club.

“It is worrisome as management keep on coming and going without engaging us. We have good ideas that could help to address challenges faced by our club, but it seems they do not want to involve us,” said a concerned supporter.

Supporters noted that although they might differ in views, at the end they should compromise as they all want to see the club surviving relegation and growing.

One of the supporters, Batshidi Moeti said the team was sinking, hence they need to stand up and rescue it. She also stressed the need to stay prepared rather than to around at the eleventh hour when things are tough.

She said the as supporters, they are not doing enough to assist the club, noting that the window period issue should have been given priority at the end of the first round of the league.

She also advised the committee members to familiarise themselves with the constitution of the club and understand their mandate.

The committee was also advised to take proper action against inactive members. BOPA
