MP cautions against alcohol abuse

Residents of Ramotlabaki in Kgatleng District have been cautioned against alcohol abuse.

Speaking during a kgotla meeting recently, Member of Parliament for Mochudi East, Mr Isaac Davids said alcohol abuse has a tendency to impoverish people.

He therefore advised those who drink alcohol to do so responsibly bearing in mind that they are raising children who look up to them for guidance.

Mr Davids said those who sell alcohol from homes destroy the future of their children because that is not a good environment for learning.

He further said children need a good place to read and do their homework so that their performance improves at school.

The Member of Parliament added that people who abuse alcohol end up portraying bad manners, which are not welcome in the society.

Mr Davids said parents should have an upper hand in helping their children grow and have a bright future through educational excellence.

He also updated residents on some of the developments projects that are coming to their constituency among them a new police station and clinic upgrading in Mmathubudukwane.

He also said Modipane-Mabalane road project was on the pipeline, adding that the road would ease movement between river villages and Gaborone.

Mr Davids told the residents that parliament has passed a law on Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) that would be used in the next coming general elections.

He said even though opposition members of parliament have their reservations on EVM, they have asked government to at least allow the machine to show proof that one has voted.

Mr Davids said it was important that residents work together to develop their village and make it what they want it to be.

Mr Davids implored the youth to build their homes in the village so that they can attract other services and amenities needed for the village to blossom through population growth.

In his welcoming remarks, Kgosi Sakaiwa Modidi decried crime, which vice he said was new to the village.

He said the theft of copper cables was on the rise in the village as often they have been left in the dark after the cables were stolen.

He also asked public officers who visit the village to consult with them first so that the elders have knowledge of their visit and what they are to share with residents.

Kgosi Modidi further said it was unfair for officers to meet with the Village Development Committee, of which he is an ex-officio member, without his consent. ENDS
