School leaderships have been called upon to involve dikgosi as much as they could in shaping the students future in all schools across the country.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 7th meeting of the 3rd Ntlo ya Dikgosi, the chairperson, Kgosi Puso said the role of dikgosi could not be forgotten as ‘we play a pivotal role in encouraging our schools. Dikgosi wherever they are must make it a point that they get involved in the relevant school activities.’

Kgosi Puso congratulated all learners who sat for the 2016 examinations and commended those who did well in the transitional examinations.

He said children should desist from vandalism, act of truancy, drug and alcohol abuse and concentrate in making their future.

“I wish to remind or dear children that the global world is very competitive. We highly depend on the competitive edge to make it as a developing nation,” he said.

He said education remained the mainstay of any developing country and encouraged students to take interest in their studies.

“Education is all about partnership, as such we all have to play our part in synergies to ensure that it becomes the mainstay of our economy,” he said.

Kgosi Puso also informed the House that he was pleased that dam levels throughout the country have gone up.

“Our hearts are with those who have been affected by floods as the rain continues to shower,” he said.

He expressed hope that Batswana have generally made good use of the rains, especially in the area of ploughing fields so as to improve the national food security.

He also encouraged Batswana to take good care of their fields and thanked dikgosi throughout Botswana who championed the ploughing cause by tirelessly working with merafe in areas of Go rapelela pula and go bolotsa letsema.

Farmers were also encouraged to make good use of the rains by harvesting water and planting animal feeds such as lablab and Lucerne.

He encouraged members of Ntlo ya Dikgosi to remain focused on their duty. The House heard that Dikgosi were gate keepers of the visitors and dignitaries in villages across the country.

In addition, he said Ntlo ya Dikgosi was constitutionally mandated to be an advisory body to Parliament, as such the House always aimed towards giving quality advice through questions and motions as well as resolutions.

“We cherish and wish to fulfil our constitutional mandate to the best of our ability at all times,” he said

He said one of the areas that the House focused on this year was capacity building, saying in the past weeks the house embarked on a capacity building workshop on communication skills, which entailed public speaking, protocol and etiquette. ENDS
