HRDC chief executive officer, Dr Raphael Dingalo, says the upcoming Botswana Human Resource Development Skills (BHRDS) fair and career clinics would be in Francistown and Gaborone.

Speaking during a media briefing in Gaborone on Monday, Dr Dingalo said, “the Francistown event will be held from February 27 to March 2 at the Business Botswana Northern Trade Fair Grounds whilst the Gaborone event will be held from the 20th to 26th March at Fairground,” he said.

He said their intention was to ensure the fair and career clinics reached out to all corners of the country in order to help students make informed decisions on intended career paths.

Dr Dingalo said the BHRDS fair and career clinics were a stakeholder engagement activity geared towards promoting the education and training sector while reflecting on strategic issues within the education sector.

He further stated that the two events would have as their central goal, maximum awareness as well as educating the stakeholders and the public on how the fair and the career clinics contribute towards the growth of the education and training sector in Botswana.

For her part, student planning and welfare manager, Ms Marianyana Selelo, said career clinics were introduced to augment the fair since learners were making wrong choices when choosing their career paths.

“Career clinics are more interactive as the career guidance is offered on one-to-one basis and enable learners to reflect and internalize the information and in the process eliminate the possibility of learners making hasty and uninformed academic programme selection and career choices,” she said.

Selelo said HRDC had embarked on capacitating career guidance and counseling teachers at senior school level in an attempt to promote Botswana’s education and training system from a supply led to a demand driven system.

“This year again, we are also planning on training more and more teachers,” she said. BOPA
