Moswaane urges residents to plough
25 Jan 2017
Francistown West MP, Mr Ignatius Moswaane has raised concerns about some residents who neglect their ploughing fields and migrate to the city.
Addressing a kgotla meeting in Tatitown on Tuesday, MP Moswaane said some people tended to move to urban areas to become Ipelegeng employees while some depended on government handouts.
Thus, he urged residents with fields to start farming and take advantage of Integrated Support Programme for Arable Agriculture Development (ISPAAD).
Mr Moswaane said government had created an enabling environment by improving access roads to production centres through Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) and thus it was upon citizens to play their part in ensuring food security and employment creation.
He cited that in Tswapong, one farmer gave a testimony that she made over P78 000 from selling water melons and her farming was rain-fed, something he said other residents can emulate.
On other issues, MP Moswaane told residents about the introduction of the passenger train and urged them to utilise it in order to avoid congestion on the roads as well as accidents as a result of fatigue.
He also informed residents about some of the issues that were addressed during the State of the Nation Address.
He informed them that Botswana continued to be a shining example in good governance and as such rated third in Africa.
Earlier ,Ward Development Committee chairperson, Mr Pule Senatle said their plans to start fish farming were at an advance stage. He said they had identified a place and the Department of Wildlife had promised to facilitate training. BOPA
